In November 2020, the Board of Romanians of DC voted to create the Romanians of DC Community Awards. The awards are an annual honor designed to recognize individuals and organizations who have shown / brought a significant contribution to the Romanian-American community in the greater Washington, DC area. By acknowledging the hard work of some of the most active individuals and organizations, which may often be overlooked or taken for granted, the award seeks to encourage further participation in community activities and to build a stronger community.
The inaugural Awards were presented in December 2020 to the Holy Cross Romanian Orthodox Church for over five decades in the service of the Romanian American community in the DC area and to the Saint Andrew Romanian Orthodox Church for a decade of organizing the Romanian Food Festival, the largest community event in the DMV.
As it was originally announced, the nominating process for the 2021 Awards will be an open one and members of our community are able to nominate deserving individuals and organizations. Nominations are to be made using the form below between Monday, October 4 and Friday, November 5. Please note that the Romanians of DC’s Annual Community Awards are designed to recognize individuals and organizations who have shown / brought a significant contribution “to the Romanian-American community in the greater Washington, DC area.” While we may accept nominations made by individuals who do not reside in the DMV area, primary consideration would be given to those nominations made by members of our community and who also nominate members of our community. Only completed nominations will be considered.
The 2021 Awards recipients will be decided by the Board of Directors and will once again be announced during the month of December and bestowed to up to three individuals / entities from our community.
