Romanians of DC Opens the Nominating Process for the 2022 Community Awards

Romanians of DC is pleased to announce that the nominating process for the 2022 Romanians of DC Community Awards has opened as of September 1. Members of our community are able to nominate deserving individuals and organizations through Friday, November 11 by using the form available below.

The Romanians of DC Community Awards were created in November 2020 by the Board of of the organization as an annual honor designed to recognize individuals and organizations who have shown / brought a significant contribution to the Romanian-American community in the greater Washington, DC area. By acknowledging the hard work of some of the most active individuals and organizations, which may often be overlooked or taken for granted, the award seeks to encourage further participation in community activities and to build a stronger community.

The inaugural Awards were presented in 2020 to the Holy Cross Romanian Orthodox Church for over five decades in the service of the Romanian American community in the DC area and to the Saint Andrew Romanian Orthodox Church for a decade of organizing the Romanian Food Festival, the largest community event in the DMV. The 2021 Awards were presented to Mr. Gheorghe Florea for his outstanding shipping services, connecting members of our community with loved ones in Romania for over two decades and Dr. Eliot Sorel for his crucial role in bringing Romania to the 1999 Smithsonian Folklife Festival and his continued service to the community.

The 2022 Awards recipients will be decided by the Board of Directors and will be announced in early December and bestowed to up to three individuals / entities from our community.

    Please note that the Romanians of DC's Annual Community Awards are designed to recognize individuals and organizations who have shown / brought a significant contribution "to the Romanian-American community in the greater Washington, DC area." While we may accept nominations made by individuals who do not reside in the DMV area, primary consideration would be given to those nominations made by members of our community and who also nominate members of our community.
