Romanian Social with H.E. Ambassador Andrei Muraru (Mărțișor Edition)

Romanians of DC cordially invites you to a new edition of “Romanian Social” which will take place on Wednesday, February 28 starting at 6 pm and will feature as honorary guest H.E. Andrei Muraru, the Ambassador of Romania to the U.S. This will also be a special ”Mărțișor” edition and all the ladies in attendance will receive this wonderful symbol of Spring. Free event! No tickets required.
Andrei Muraru assumed the role of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the United States after being accredited by President Klaus Iohannis on July 7, 2021. He presented his Letters of Credence to President Joe Biden on September 15, 2021.
Before his diplomatic assignment, Ambassador Muraru played key roles at the Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile, including serving as Executive President from 2012 to 2014. Additionally, he held positions within the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and as a counselor to the General Director of the National Archives of Romania. Between 2014 and 2021, Andrei Muraru served as Senior Advisor to President Klaus Iohannis at the Presidential Administration, leading the Department of Relationship with Public Authorities and Civil Society. Concurrently, he held academic positions as a university lecturer at the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration and as a scientific researcher at The Elie Wiesel National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania. Ambassador Muraru’s academic journey includes being an Erasmus-Socrates student at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and receiving doctoral fellowships at New Europe College and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. His notable contributions to historiography have earned him prestigious awards, including the Medal “King Michael for Loyalty” and the distinction of Officer in the Order of the Crown. In 2019, he was honored with the ”Grande Ufficiale Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana” by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
The Romanian Socials are designed to create a space and a community in which Romanian and Moldovan professionals and students and also friends of Romania and of the Republic of Moldova are able to network and know one another. They often feature special guests, including Ambassadors and elected officials, while at the same time offering an opportunity to reconnect with old friends, to make new ones and to meet fellow Romanian and Moldovan professionals from the Washington, DC area.
This edition of the Romanian Social will take place on the second floor of the Mayflower Club located at 1223 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC. The club is just a short walk from the Dupont Circle Metro Stop (O Street Exit) and a 5–10-minute walk from the Farragut North Metro Station (L Street Exit) on the Red Line. The restaurant will feature an assortment of Romanian and Moldovan wines offered at happy hour prices until 9:00 pm.
