Moldova in 2025 – A Fireside Chat with Moldovan Ambassador Viorel Ursu

Join U.S. Institute of Peace for a Conversation with Moldova’s Ambassador to the United States, Viorel Ursu, and regional experts that will examine current developments in Moldova and the challenges the country will face in the year ahead. The discussion will go in-depth on their recent presidential elections, the ongoing energy crisis, upcoming parliamentary elections, the unresolved conflict in Transnistria, as well as Russia’s destabilizing activities. The event will take place on Tuesday, February 25 from 2:00 until 3:30 pm (the event was originally scheduled for Wednesday, February 12) at USIP located at 2301 Constitution Ave, Washington, DC 20037.

Moldova has advanced on its path toward EU accession and closer ties with the West over the past few years. As parliamentary elections approach later this year, the country is facing ongoing challenges stemming from pervasive Russian malign influence, the ongoing conflict in Transnistria, and the need to attain full energy independence.
