Bold Fork Books and Carolina Gelen invite you on Saturday, September 28 at 7 pm to an evening of conversation about Carolina’s debut cookbook, Pass the Plate. The event will take place at Bold Fork Books located at 3064 Mount Pleasant Street, NW in Washington, DC 20009.
In her debut cookbook, Carolina Gelen shares soulful recipes rooted in the resourcefulness of her Romanian upbringing that use affordable, pantry-friendly ingredients. With 100 simple recipes—almost all brand-new but including some fan favorites—for creative but familiar takes on satisfying comfort foods, Pass the Plate has you covered for any occasion, from easy weeknight meals to spirited gatherings. Carolina Gelen is on a mission to share her abounding love of food with you. Her journey began in Transylvania, Romania, where upon winning a Jamie Oliver contest, she immigrated to the United States in 2021. In America, Carolina worked in the kitchen a of James Beard Award winner, developed video and recipe content for New York Times Cooking, and was a recipe resident at Food52. Simultaneously, she built an online community of millions who love her cooking and baking recipes for being so shareable, approachable, and delicious, all before the age of twenty-five. She fell in love with the beautiful nature of Utah, where she currently resides, but believes that when someone makes one of her recipes a part of her resides with them. The event will be moderated by Meryl Feinstein, a James Beard Award Winning chef, pasta maker, and food writer who left the corporate world in 2018 to graduate top of her class at the Institute of Culinary Education. After working at the renowned Lilia and Misi restaurants in New York City, where she was part of the pasta production team, she founded Pasta Social Club, a platform for sharing a love of food and learning. She now lives in Washington, DC, where she develops recipes and teaches pasta-making workshops. Her writing and recipes have been featured in Food & Wine and Food52, for which she was the website’s Resident Pasta Maker. She has been quoted as an expert in pasta making for BBC Travel, La Cucina Italiana, Martha Stewart, New York Magazine, and more.
